The new Ribbon "feature" is a great example. It takes up about 20% of the screen real estate with an ever-changing range of options most people don't need and never use. Yes, Google's stuff is ugly. I think that alot of the Microsoft products have become much more friendly to the eye. Ex: Bing, new Zune OS, Windows Phone OS, Windows 7. They all seem to have a revamp toward eye candy.
